    The 016 Maasto Bar Stool provides elevated seating plus all the features of the elegant and elemental Maasto dining range. Each piece in the Maasto family is simple and strong, combining plywood for strength and reduced bulk with solid pine for durability.

    The Maasto Bar Stool is purposely reduced in form and concept: a simple ode to pine furniture that is light and strong, designed for casual dining in any setting. Our plywood features an exaggerated grain, producing a visually intoxicating super-pine aesthetic.

    The Maasto Bar Stool is available in two heights and features copper-covered footrests for maximum durability. 

    Material: Scots Pine. Made from pine—a soft wood that, over time, will get dents and scratches. However, these imperfections should be seen as signs of aging that add character, not as flaws. Your pine furniture also naturally changes color as it ages, with the light wood gradually becoming a beautiful honey hue.

    Material Characteristics

    Pine is the most characterful timber and improves with age. Customers can expect pine furniture to slowly mature in colour from a pale tone to a deep honey hue. Vaarnii uses both heart and sapwood. Because these different timber sections age at different speeds, Vaarnii furniture passes through a lively striped phase. However, the timber will settle to a uniform and rich colour.

    Pine features a distinct grain and the inclusion of knots. Every piece is unique. Vaarnii never hides the true character of the timber, we regard it as a valuable decorative feature. If knots are present on your Vaarnii furniture, it is important to note that they have been carefully positioned. Because pine is a soft wood, dents and bruises may occur over the years. We ask our customers to embrace these gentle signs of aging. Pine is a natural and unique material. Your pine furniture will age with you. We encourage our customers to enjoy and cherish the beautiful transformation.

    Our pine plywood is made from high quality pine and is strong and light. The timber is sourced from the lower section of the pine tree and is therefore free of knots. It has been cut in such a way as to enhance the unique patterns found on the timber’s surface. Pine plywood matures in colour in the same way as solid pine.

    Our solid pine products are finished in Osmo Color Oil-wax.
    All Vaarnii products are made locally by select Finnish makers and specialists. Every pine tree is harvested from sustainably managed Finnish forests and solid timber is hand-selected for the highest quality. Our pine plywood is currently sourced from central Europe due to a lack of high-quality local material. Vaarnii very much hopes to find a supplier of Finnish plywood that matches our desire for quality.

    The Designer

    Ronan Bouroullec

    Ronan (born 1971) and Erwan Bouroullec (born 1976) are brothers and designers based in Paris. They have been working together for about fifteen years bonded by diligence and challenged by their distinct personalities. Their studio is based in Paris and their team numbers around six people.
